Local Energy
Most of New England’s electricity supply comes from sources that are imported from outside the region or outside the country. As a result, when we import power, we export dollars and jobs. Wind power represents an opportunity, however, to create jobs here in New England. Climate change caused by our pollution will first impact the most disadvantaged peoples of our community and the world. It is our responsibility to address our dirty energy use by creating a cleaner energy supply here in New England where we use it. Martha's Vineyard pays the one of the highest prices for electricity in our nation; but the Vineyard has a great wind resource just waiting to be tapped. The wind resource map below shows that the Island as a whole is a good candidate for windpower. The pink and orange areas are extremely good.
